Say iDuck,

Consider the recent deal with the sale of BUD.... got in at 48 last February and sold at 68 when the deal was announced. Gee, a 40% profit in 6 months.... sorta like a GFE with a BG, unexpected but really nice...

Apple releases firmware 2.0.2 upgrade - contains "bug fixes"

I love Apple's minimalist descriptions -- on a more serious note, this firmware update further speeds up display of contact lists, removes many of the still existing typing lags, and allegedly fixes some of the reception problems a number of users reported.

Here's some interesting and factually more accurate and researched reading on the iPhone 3G reception issues, and what's related to it:

Place your iPhone into DFU mode.

Perform a manual 'restore' by hitting the 'Restore' option, not the 'upgrade' option.

How to enter DFU mode:

Step 1. Turn off your iPhone.

Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.

Step 3. After about 10 seconds, when you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down, for about another 10 seconds.

The screen should remain blank/black and the iPhone is now in DFU mode and is ready for a restore.

Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode, then proceed with the manual restore, as above.

Here's a YouTube video explaining the same operation to you, in pretty video.

For what it's worth -- I have done updates on roughly 30 iPhones so far, and have had not a single freeze in the described manner -- correction, I have had one that broke in this manner, and that iPhone had been jailbroken and hacked by the user, as I found out after some prodding.

Not saying this is the cause for most users (obviously not, as you probably don't know how to jailbreak your iPhone either), but I'd wager a guess that the users with problems have done interrupted syncs or backups in the past, which resulted in a less optimal installation. Speculation on my part, mind you.

Do I need to upgrade to 2.0 first before upgrading to 2.01 or can I do this directly from 1.1.x?

If you want to retain data and do an 'upgrade', you need to go through the motions - since you're using a jailbroken iPhone, you would be going through a restore that kills all data anyway.

Hence, be sure to back EVERYTHING up first, perform your update on the same machine you use to sync your iTunes with, create the proper ipsw file using Pwnage tool, and the perform a full 'restore' from DFU mode on your iPhone - subsequently, perform a restore from your backup, and re-sync.

You can use the ipsw file to also subsequently update other iPhones, as long as they are of the same model as yours.

By the way, my suggestions are to revert the juvenile graphics from the Pwnage tool, to factory standard ones, and to eliminate the Installer.app (v4, beta) from the installation - it is buggy, there are no repositories, and Cydia is much better anyway)
