- the external speakers are much louder, clearer.
- ringtones and ringing is much more obvious, and VERY loud, if set that way.
- internal speakers and pickup have been improved.
- voice reproduction on the internal speaker is louder and clearer.
- volume is better and louder.

Some of the complaints against the first version of the iPhone was that it failed somewhat in it's core functionality; making a phone call (low sound etc.)

Me too while at least on the couple of year old SONY. Anyhow iTouch is on To Buy list, but it will only painfully remind me on cleaning up my MP3 Tags so album covers show up. Hopefully in a couple of months that project will be complete.
Anyhow no one has mention the strongest point for not getting an iPhone. That being that one's fingers are usually covered in Thai Pussy juice leaving nasty residue on the touchscreen. Remember folks Bangkok is a Dirty city and we like that way.

Import them into iTunes, select all songs from an entire album, perform a 'Get Info', and paste the album art into the 'artwork' field. Done!

The glass front of iPhone is the strongest point in its favor.
The glass cleans up real nice, and easily.
The plastic keys on regular phones just get too sticky and required constant maintenance, cleaning and eventual replacement. Nasty (and yes, I like it that way too).

Avoiding the point again iDuck.
The point is that you are labeling mainstream media as 'sensationalist' because they report issues that do not fit in with your belief.
So what do you do? You pull a quote that I made on the web-bot project out of context and call it a strawman. Now admittedly I made a typo (since corrected) on the year that the Web-bot predicted a significant event (in this case 9/11) so it may have confused you. But the point I was making was that pulling by information from the internet this AI system (which is thought to be reliable) has also decided that in 2012 the world will be permanently changed (possibly for the worst).
Now follow me carefully here iDuck, the reason that this conclusion was reached was because there is an inordinate amount of chatter on the Internet regarding the 2012 phenomenon. Based on the large amount of blog postings and website references the AI system has concluded (wrongly) that this must be a highly likely event. However, this 'chatter' is not been vetted and is the focus of a large group of zealots who are positing their beliefs on the web.
This is why I depend on vetted sources for my iPhone postings. A quick google of the term iPhone Problems' has resulted in approximately 32,600,000 hits. Now are all of these legitimate hits.... no, of course not. But that illustrates my point that using internet links only to support your postings in a flawed policy.

Yes, the MP3 tags can be a hassle and the iTunes interface is a hassle if you have lot of albums.
Thankfully, iTunes is scriptable.
I wrote myself some scripts that goes through the collection and populates it with album covers and lyrics. The last one a little bit of a gimmick, the Touch does show lyrics when you play a song.
