Not for the 3G model, and I have already, previously, several times, discussed that the availability of an iPhone 2.0 jailbreak and unlock was known and available since before the release of iPhone 3G.
Again, all you are doing is demonstrating how you are not able to pay attention, and you are becoming, more and more, a total waste of my time.

They are, contractually, not intended for sale outside of the regions they are approved for -- i.e. TIM is not able to just sell them all over the place; furthermore, when buying them, they require you to be a resident of the respective country (i.e. they require your legitimate address) ; and in many other countries (though not Italy), you are still required to sign up for a contract - thus in Hong Kong, the iPhone 3G is unlocked, but you need to sign up with 3; in Germany, they will unlock the iPhone 3G for you after two years, when your contract is up; in France you can request an unlock after 6 months anyways.
None of this is news.

as I'm in Italy at the moment, I can definitely confirm that the 3G iPhone is indeed available sim free. It was confirmed by both Vodafone & Tim (the 2 appointed carriers by Apple), one can buy the phone without contract and can use whatever network operator and in any country of your choice. Perfect! A few hours ago I had a lengthy phone conversation with a Tim representative at their head office in Rome and she double confirmed it. Of course they'll customise the software with their logos and when you access the internet is via their portals, but that's the lesser of the two evils. One can always change those settings later.
They (Vodafone & Tim) are giving preference to customers who sign a contract with them and only after they fulfilled those orders they'll sell the unlocked ones. As from today there is enough stock of 8GB & 16GB but for some reason no white colour, only black. The carriers reckon that they can start supplying unlocked iPhone at the end of July / beginning of August. I'm after the 16GB that retails at €569 and as I'm using a Tim pay-as-you-go sim card, it'll fit in nicely.
The snag is that I have to fly back home London around that period, so I'm not sure if I can grab one before I leave. But wouldn't be delicious to have an unlocked iPhone using any network other than O2 in UK?

My 50 cents,
In Norway you could buy a iPhone 3G with a contract with Netcom, then abort the contract right away (according to Norwegian law, confirmed by Netcom).
You would pay for 1 month, but you get a unlocked phone.
But, this is only practical for Norwegians...
