Have not paid much attention the Ipod or its cousin the Iphone. But I saw the Ipod the other day that looks like the phone and got a bit curious because I was impressed with all the things it seems able of! The screens clarity, movies and music, games etc.

They look very much the same so it seems better to choose the phone then and get internet, email etc. But are they? I tried to look at the web but cant really figure out if there is the same amount of music you enter on the two machines? So you who know - how many songs will go into an Iphone? Movies?

Price seems to be around 600 eur in Europe for an Iphone. But the info I found so far after a quick look is that you must hook up to a operator? I dont want that since I already have the operator and number I want?!

Can you buy a phone in Thailand with i.e. scandinavian letters/keyboard and how much would that cost? Will it be unlocked? Or does Iphone always sell with hook-up to an operator?

And finally: Is it correct that a brand new Iphone model will be launched soon? So perhaps best to wait for that one?!

Thanks!

TrueMove is selling the iPhone without contract for about 28,500 B (which will be about 30,495 B after VAT, but you can get the VAT refund as a tourist). It is unlocked (my friend bought it and used it with his AIS account). There is Swedish keyboard support, though I have not tested it out myself, best thing is to test it out before getting it.

Too good to pass up:

Marguerite Reardon, reporting for CNet:

For the first quarter, which ended March 31, Nokia said that net profits fell to 122 million euros ($161.3 million). A year earlier the company reported net profits of 1.22 billion euros. Analysts had expected the company to report net profits of about 306 million euros.

Let me spell it out for those bad in math: "Nokia’s Net Profit Falls 90 Percent"

That silence you hear is the reaction from the “market share is all that matters” pundits.

I doubt AAPL will post a 90% decline in profits.

Sony-Ericcson, on the other hand:

Sony Ericsson phone units plunge 35% in Q1

Sony Ericsson today reported first quarter results that warned of a steep drop in phone shipments and increasing losses that will push the company to further scale back its operations. The company says it shipped only 14.5 million phones between January and March, or about 35 percent less than it did during the same span a year ago and 40 percent less than the holiday season in late 2008. The sharp decline has also widened Sony Ericsson's net losses to the equivalent of $382.4 million (versus a $173.6 million income for early 2008).

Yeah, must really piss off the armchair experts from several months back that threw their weight behind Nokia's 'expertise' and RIM's 'unsinkability', while expertly lecturing how the iPhone will just be a flash in the pan.

I find it vindicatively amusing that, somehow, we now don't hear *ANYTHING* from those same BTF experts anymore...

Yep, it was very nicely gratifying to see how well AAPL's quarter was, how they beat street expectations, and how they consistently buck the 'bad economy' - not the least of which is to see them back in the $122 range, and climbing. I guess it's a good thing I don't subscribe to the 'Mark to Market' accounting idiocy that some self-professed experts lectured on and on about....

ok, here are my personal price projections for AAPL 12 months form now... and before you yell, understand that I have been doing this a long time.

AAPL traded about 50 times earnings until the recent carnage. Now we are trading about 25 times earnings.

So to make everyone comfortable about my projections, I will assume AAPL will trade at a 30 PE a year form now. Out of 36 analysts following the stock, the medium estimate is that AAPL will earn $6.17 for the quarter ending Sept. 2010.

So take 6.17 times 30 and you get $185

That is my target on the low side, I actually think AAPL will trade up towrd historical averages, maybe we can get a 40 PE out of it, that would give us $240 on the high side.

Beware my friends, if we have any type of recovery, AAPL will soar and make you a lot of money.

On the flip side, now that we have delevered the banks, a P/E of 10 is appropriate. So don' tthink you will see them be able to expand their P/E's because the govt. won't let them. Doe not mean they are not going up, just don't look to the banks for leadership. Too much crap to get rid of still.

The future is Biomass company's. If you are interested, let me know, I follow this industry.
