Let's try this -- get a 5 megabyte PDF attachment, and then zoom into the small print; then, do the same on a JPEG. You can't do it - that's the reason the majority of my execs switched to iPhones, as they constantly have high res files they need to proof or approve, and on the Blackberry it always ended up a blur, as it only provides the thumbnail preview, not access to the actual file.
Next, try streaming a high-res QuickTime file on the Blackberry -- again, needed for video approval and previewing dailies. I mean *streaming* not waiting 20 minutes for the file to download before you can start viewing a low-res version of it.
For people living in a text only world, they are probably great little tools. For anyone dealing with real media or multimedia, BB's an anchor around your neck.

and I can watch videos too
people who really deal with multimedia that they need to "approve" a high res video on a 5mp iphone need to get their priorities right
thats like gordon ramsay texting his staff to ask how the food tastes
anyway to each their own
nothing is ever that urgent that it cant be viewed better quality on any laptop anyway if really necessary
i cant imagine lucas or speilbery viewing and approving film edits on an iphone

...and then you might have an idea of the type of people that I work with on a daily basis, who *DO* need to 'approve' videos on an iphone, and, oddly enough, who are doing precisely that -- because this phone allows them to. Just because it's beyond your level of comprehension, doesn't mean it can't be done.
I know you can watch thumbnail sized low quality videos on your BB, but that's about it.

iPhones are capable of playing high-res and HD video being emailed or streamed - just because your BB can't do, or you don't know how to do it, doesn't mean that people aren't doing it.

The point is that an iPhone is able to replace a laptop in such situations -- a BB can not. Simple as that - that's why you would need a laptop, and my people do not.

As you seem to be the iphone guru, a quick question if I may I will be in LOS in November
1. If I buy a "no contract" iphone in Thailand can I use sim cards from other countries, when I am in those countries as I would with a normal mobile phone. i.e. Australian SIM when in Australia etc.
2. Whats the current cost of a 16G I phone 3Gs in Thailand

1. Yes. 'no contract' essentially means the phone is not locked to any carrier, and you can use any SIM card, as long as the country you plan to be in has GSM based service.

Yeah, I have wasted hundreds of hours playing this damn Tris game, thanks to DD. I do get some work done when in a bar or in a taxi, thanks to the iPhone. So, I play when I am supposed to work, and I work when I am playing.

Sounds the way it's supposed to be.
I'm able to use my iPhone in places where I previously was not able to perform real work, or would have needed a laptop with me, and hunt down WiFi connections.
With the iPhone, I can pretty much do 90% (if not more) of what required a laptop previously, and get work taken care of in places where I have 'downtime' (like taxis, waiting at the airport, etc..), or deal with emergency situations immediately, when needed.
Don't see a Blackberry able to do that -- and even the Nokia S60 I used previously, which was quite versatile, was only a fraction as useful.
The key, really is an intelligent development system, and an App Store that has nearly everything you can think of needing -- as the advertisemnet goes "There's an app for that".
