Actually fully draining a Li-On battery shortens the life according to most of the latest reports. From memory, its something like 500 Full charges for a Fully flat battery & 1,500 charges for a battery that has been discharged to around 50% & recharged.
EDITED, it should read Lithium Iron as it does now. Teach me to post from in a hurry.

Ours are LOCKED and that's that, so I assume you're talking about a phone that's already completed a 2 year contract can be unlocked. That holds true for just about any phone.

Granted I can tether & use it as a mobile hotspot w/o paying extra, but that's just because I've got the employee package.
Some of my co-workers are still stuck on Blackberries, I don't understand that, but until the company forces them to switch, so be it. I think they already stopped providing those Blackberry-specific eMail addresses.
AppleCare just made the whole warranty process more difficult, that's all, more data fields to deal with also. At least the sales staff are over their teething period with activating via iTunes & setting up warranties via AppleCare now.
I still don't feel like I'm missing anything & I'm just as valuable a resource in my environment. I'm not activating them myself or having to help the customers deal with the iPhone, so bullocks to them, LOL
I'm a guru in other respects though, which stand on their own, w/o needing to become a fanboy.

I'm talking about iPhones, out the door, unlocked, OOTB.
Older iPhones can certainly be unlocked by participating carriers (AT&T refused to do so until they were forced this year).

I know guys who were paying between 6 and $700 for unlocked "iPhone 4"s in 2010
not 4S, just iPhone 4

You asked the right guy.
Due to the 3-4 months lag between the North American releases, and the Thailand releases, purchasing iPhones in the USA and reselling them in a Thailand can net a brisk but decent profit.
Granted, gone are the days where you could purchased iPhone first generation units for $99, and resell them in Thailand for around $600 (good times, good times), but it should still be quite possible to sell brand new released, shrink-wrapped models of iPhones to various vendors for a $100-$200 profit, and a little bit more if you hit the classified sites like Baht & Sold.
Bear in mind, that since fully unlocked models are now available in the US, OOTB from Apple direct, there may be more traffic going from the US to Thailand of these (though, most of those bought in the US go straight back to China - go figure - to be resold for around $1,000 or more).
I'm planning on coming to Thailand around November for a month-long trip, so am considering bringing a batch of 10 of the new iPhones with me, again.
