Another award for KLIA
==============
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) added another award to its collection when it was selected as The Most Outstanding Establishment in the Tourist, Hotel, Restaurant and Catering Field for the Year 2007 by Trade Leaders' Club.

"This award is indeed another big accomplishment for KLIA, reaffirming its status as the world's best airport," said Senior General Manager of Operation Services Malaysia Airports Datuk Azmi Murad, who received the award at the 32nd International Award for Tourist, Hotel and Catering Industry Gala Dinner in Madrid, Spain on Wednesday.

This is the second award received by KLIA this year after the airport was awarded The Brand Laureate for the Best Brands Transportation Airport 2006-2007 last month.

The International Award for Tourist, Hotel and Catering Industry is created to recognise the contribution of organisations working to promote tourism, hotel and catering trade as well as to encourage good relationships among the workers in the industry.

Trade Leaders' Club is a non-profit organisation based in Madrid that aims to promote trade exchanges and human relations between countries. It was founded in 1979 with members totalling more than 16,000 employers and managers of firms in more than 145 countries.

Report from The New Straits Times (Malaysia) dated Wednesday 14 March 2007 :-

KLIA soars after bagging 2006 Best Airport award
====================================

THE Kuala Lumpur International Airport once again took home three awards at the Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards 2006, including for Best Airport in the 15 to 25 million passengers per year category.

The airport retained the title with 24.13 million passengers handled last year. The San Diego International Airport and Zurich Airport took the second and third place titles respectively.

KLIA also picked up its second consecutive Third Best Airport Worldwide and Third Best Airport in Asia-Pacific awards.

South Korea’s Incheon International Airport took top honours in these two categories, followed by the Hong Kong International Airport.

"It goes to show that in our part of the world (Asia), we place a lot of emphasis on service levels and not just on airport infrastructure," Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad said after the awards gala on Monday night here.

Bashir said they were pleased with this year’s victory. "We have received many awards on numerous occasions, but this is one which we think is important because it is a survey that is conducted by the airports and for the airports.

"We believe it reflects the true criteria of the service levels that airports provide."

For the first time KLIA edged out Singapore’s Changi Airport which slipped from second last year to fourth placing for Best Airport Worldwide and Best Airport in Asia-Pacific categories.

"We are always compared with Changi. As such, it is nice to know that we are ahead of them this year and we hope to continue to progress from here."

Bashir believes that KLIA’s higher rankings this year was also attributed to some improvements in its service offerings including the introduction of the WiFi technology throughout the airport, maximising its retail space and maintaining its high cleanliness record.

Planning a visit to KL Malaysia in August, any recommendations on places to visit.

This'll be my second visit, but that was 3 years ago. Hit the tea places, noted a lot of PI ladies working the bars and a few Thais running around. Prices were 100.00 U.S. for LT and 50.00 at the tea places, if I remember right.

Thinking it might be better to cross the border to Singapore for action on Geyland St.

Beach Club area near KLCC is the nightspot part of KL for foreigners, mainly Filipinas but quiet a few overpriced Chinese! Your pricing is about right, most will want around the $300 Ringgit mark LT! Look for cheaper Freelancers in places such as Thai Cowboy & Hard Rock Cafe later in the evening. Lot of Indonesian Ladies hang out in the Hard Rock.

Few months back, a Malaysian Hindu, who happened to be the first malaysian to climb Mt. Everest, died. But the Malaysian mullahs together with its government refused to allow his Hindu wife to cremate him according to Hindu customs. Instead, they made up a nonsensical story that he converted to Islam just before he died!

What a f***ed up country. Even in death, non-muslims don't have a right!

I wouldn't spend a tourist dime in Malaysia.

Ah the game of rumor, the facts get screwed up all of the time.

In this case the man had converted to Islam when he joined the Malaysian Military, sort of a career move. By Malaysian law conversion to Islam is one way so when he died the Islamic courts took over and ruled against a Hindu burial. This was reviewed by the Malaysian government and all was in order with Malaysian law.

IMHO his wife was trying to garner her 15 minutes of fame once her husband died. He knew the rules when he converted and she knew he was a Muslim convert when she married him. No harm, no foul.

The issue comes when a child is born into an Islamic family. This child is automatically a Muslim and even if they want to they can not legally convert without the permission of the Islamic Court. But this is no different from any other Muslim country.

In reality, Malaysia is the most tolerant and westernized Muslim county in the world.

So tell you what 4naxnt, do not come to Malaysia and while you are at it stay away from Singapore too. We do not need your attitude and your money anyway...

There is no such thing, in the context of a religious/religion-based state. Catholic countries are no different (once baptized, you are a catholic, for good, unless excommunicated or officially removed from Catholic church)

Sailor, this ain't no rumor. Straight from Malaysian newspaper. Matter of fact, you confirm most of it

The family, including the husband, has been celebrating Hindu festival every year including the one before he died.

But I am getting into the minutiae here. Step back here a bit...

To a civilized society, everything you say is anathema - One way street to religion, governmental take over of your dead body, government gets to decide the religion of a child, a government that tramples all over the rights of minorities, encourages conversion by inducement of jobs.
Basically I am just quoting you!

Of course, you'd see it in a different light.

Granted, Malaysia is probably heaven compared to the Holy Land of Saudi Arabia.

Rest asssured I'll stay away from Malaysia. Who knows, the customs may confiscate my passport and say, "convert or no passport for you!". And since you dished out unsolicited advice about my travels, may I suggest that you stick to Islamic countries and not visit the rest of the world?

And that includes Singapore.

BTW, why are you speaking for Singapore? Last time I checked, it was a secular nation, albeit an authoritative one with plenty of religious freedom for minorities.

The government is not as sick as the malaysian one.
