I was in Beijing last year for some contract negotiations with a Chinese company (first time there), who had arranged my hotel room for me, and had just checked in to my hotel. I went down to the lobby to get something and just as I walked back into the elevator a very pretty Chinese young woman (looked somewhat like that American figure skater Michele Kwan - is that her name?), I would say early 20s, quickly got into the elevator with me as the doors were closing. There was one other person in the elevator as well. When that other person departed the elevator she turned to me and quietly asked very nervously, "you like me to go to room with you?" I was shocked to say the least. I responded politely that I wasn't interest (although I was, but it wasn't the time or the place). She then quoted a price that was about $35 U.S. and again I said I wasn't interested. She asked me please not to tell the hotel authorities and I said I wouldn't and I got out of the elevator and left. About 45 minutes later, I went back down to the lobby and didn't see her or any other unaccompanied young ladies that might be pros and never saw any the rest of the time I was at the hotel. After I got back home I spoke to an older Chinese man from Taiwan that has done a lot of business in China over the years. He said probably the girl was sent by the company I was doing business with either for blackmale purposes (I seriously doubt this but possible) or just as a gift. Whether that's true I have no idea but it is something to keep in mind if you do business in China. He said next time, make your own hotel reservations and don't let your host do it for you. The company I was dealing with is half owned by the government so for all I know, my telephone and room was bugged.

While in China (Shanghai area) in 2003, after long days of negotiations, my Chinese hosts and I often hit the KTV bar in the main hotel in the town we were staying at. Always lots of fun, though those ladies didn't go with customers.
On the second to last night, we all got very drunk, did the KTV scene, then the #2 man for the guy I was negotiating with walked me back up to my hotel room. On the way up, he asked, with a drunken Chinese drawl, "you want massage?"
Well, hell yes! So he makes a quick call, a little hottie shows up, I retire to the bathroom to brush my teeth (and allow him face saving time to pay the lady), then I come out, and they are all smiles. He gives me a hearty goodnight, and I get down to business with the lady. She was fun, but I was too drunk to do much good, lol, what a tragedy! Nonetheless, I did my best, and so did she, and she departed about an hour later. After that, I slept like a baby.
Breakfast buffet next morning, and everyone pretended that nothing happened, lol! Especially since there were some women in our parties, hehehe...
BTW, blackmail with P4P ladies is common, but so is providing a P4P lady as a hospitality gesture -- a way for the Chinese businessman to gain face.

Interesting story. This same business man from Taiwan told he that he knew one Chinese man that was drugged and signed a bunch of documents and lost a lot of property on some low level business deal. He said to be very careful doing business in China but as of yet, we have had absolutely no problems with this company. One thing I have learned about them, which is a strange quirk, is that they love seals and official stamps. They were very bothered that we didn't have an "official company stamp" for our docs (which of course is meaningless), so we went to a stationary store and had one made up, and its in the color red, of course. They were quite pleased.

I can't say how things are now, but I worked in China for three years in the mid-1990's. Back then, we were warned by old China hands that some KTV bars were owned and operated by the Chinese secret police for the purpose of gathering blackmail material. Never heard of that actually happening, though. I do know a guy who got a Chinese girl pregnant (he thought she deliberately impregnated herself with the contents of a condom.) Local public security authorities seized his passport and told him he wouldn't be leaving China until he either married the girl or "settled" the matter financially with her. He paid $5,000 and figured the girl might have been allowed to keep $1,000 at the very most.

I am going to Beijing late this year and I was wondering about any PFP possibilities there. I do not know anything about the KTV bars that you guys are talking about. Can you give me a quick update as to what they are (besides a place for PFP) and how they operate?

Hello Peter,
You seem to know your way around Beijing. I'll be there in begining of June for business, and heard about "Barber shops" - do you the approach, rates and service? We will be at the WTC and stay in hotel close by. Any problems with bringing girls into Goverment owned hotel (actually a JV as I understand) - normal 4 star, but not a western hotel.
