Doc,can I suggest you deposit your money in the bank each month rather than putting it in your pockets.

Alternatively no matter how little you think you eat it is too much for you to maintain a steady weight.Either cut down or increase your level of activity,or better a bit of both.

Try mixing in weight lifting and cardio 4-5 days a week (45 minutes - 1 hour) and eating a high protein/low card diet for two weeks. I was still only about 86kg but the MOST important thing (and only accurate thing) is that my body fat % went from 13.7% to 8.7% which is very good.

To give you guys an idea, the 10-12% area is where you normally will START to see your six pack (No, not of beer :P)

Persev,8.7% body fat is extraordinarily low except for super fit lean athletes whose body fat may range from 6 to 13%,and body builders who have dehydrated for a competition in which event their body fat may be lower than 6%, but this is not a healthy level and should not be maintained except for short periods.

Excluding super fit athletes and competition body builders the normal range for a fit man is 14 to 17%,and 21 to 24% for a fit woman.

Average body fat for men is 18 to 24%,and 25 to 32 for women,and these ranges are regarded as healthy.

Above 24% for men and 32% for women is regarded as fat to obese.

...and keep in mind that the burn-calories-by-build-up-muscles thing only works until you reach - in my case - the age of mid 50ies... no bulding up muscles from that point any more = loosing weight becomes mission (almost) impossible...

I have a hard time keeping my 90 Kg on 185 cm...

That might be the case with the good doc too...

Sorry, no better news for the elderly...

Oh, exercise will always help... :-D

Of course you can build up muscles also in old age by resistance training. I'm actually doing it now and I am 70.
Proof: my lifting capacity has improved 10-12 per cent in six weeks (bench press, military press, dead lifts and squats).
The important thing is that it must be progressive: you must leave your comfort zone and increase the resistance every time to grimace level - and more, up to pure blind explosive will power in the last push. Then your muscle fibers will tear down and build up again during the rest period (which should be at least three days). This is regardless of age.

My previous program five years ago showed the same rate of progress.

Diet is much more important than exercise.

Most people have no idea when it comes to diet.

You can lose weight easily if you have discipline in what you eat regardless of your level of activity.

Of course doing exercise is good for you but if you have a poor diet exercise will not offset the poor diet.
