Would like to ask forum opinion on if worth to upgrade to new 3G iPhone. I going soon to US and was thinking to buy. I read the informative posts and links here and seems that beyond the 3G that we not have in Thailand there mainly just the GPS as there is possibility to upgrade the software of current OS to 2.x with current iPhone to get most of the same features. I really love my phone that I bought in Jan in Las Vegas. Also if recommed to buy is anything should be careful off re the model I'll be in SFX this time I see the post above to the generic sim coming now. Thanks to advise

Unlocking iPhone 2.0 for your First Generation iPhone.
Before you go out and pay sometimes ludicrous amounts for getting your original iPhone unlocked with iPhone 2.0 software, look here:

This is the same software that the guys at MBK use, or that various scammers sell for $25 to $100 online -- it's a free download, and the software extensively guides you through the process.
NOTE: Apple just recently released iPhone software 2.0.1 - and despite this tool being named similarly, it will NOT work for iPhone software 2.0.1 Those guys are working on supporting it, and I'll post here when that's the case.
This tool, sadly called Pwnage Tool, will unlock & jailbreak original iPhone and iPod Touch. It will only jailbreak, but NOT UNLOCK, iPhone 3G (and it looks less and less likely that iPhone 3G will be software unlocked soon).
