Virtual Keyboard vs. Physical Keyboards
(i.e. the old CrackBerry vs. iPhone debate)

There is no such thing as the 'better' keyboard, as the way a user interacts with a device is entirely personal, and affected by too many variables to be able to provide 'the best' keyboard.

Some people swear by the iPhone keyboard; some people hate it.

Some people love their chicklet keyboards; other don't care for them.

That being said, if you are trying to make a decision, and the keyboard variable is holding you up, here's a few things to consider and be aware of.

First of all, there's some well laid out pages on Apple's site regarding the new virtual keyboard - how it works, seeing it in action, and how to use it:

http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/keyboard.html

If you come from a CrackBerry background, and the two-thumbs typing method, you *WILL* need to adjust to a different way of typing - specifically the single finger typing demonstrated by Steve Jobs whenever he demonstrates the iPhone. Some people claim they prefer the two thumbs typing -- but once they grasp the iPhone single finger typing, it's hard to go back. For what it's worth, I regularly beat Crackberry typists on speed and accuracy on my iPhone.

Again, it's not for everyone. Some people are too old, too set in their ways, or simply do not *want* to learn something new. If that's you, then you're probably better served with a more traditional phone - chances are, you wouldn't be able to figure out some of the other intuitive features of the iPhone's operations either.

A big advantage of the iPhone keyboard, is that because it is software based, it can easily accommodate new languages, including iconic languages - and if a brand new language is being supported, it's just one free software update away.

In other words, once iPhone will support the Thai market, a software update will include the Thai language and keyboard. (note: iPhone 2.0 already supports Thai alphabet, so if you browse to a Thai site, like Sanook.com, it will properly display).

Thus, the iPhone 2.0 software updated, brought Chinese, Japanese, and other graphical input systems to the iPhone, as well as a slew of other roman languages. You can configure your iPhone to support as few or as many of those languages and keyboards as you choose.

On the other hand, if all you grasp is plain old English, and you don't care about foreign languages, then that's not as major of an issue to consider. Check out the link at the beginning - it will answer most of your questions about the keyboard support.

Best to just leave the device hanging from your belt- exploit the 'cool' factor and all -without getting into more trouble. Be safe iPhone boys!
Remember - a mobile phone is NOT a fashion accessory. The tendency to wear them in cases attached to your belt is not just inconvenient, it is also quite gauche.

Oh, I mean, I meant to say, it's quite exemplary to walk around showing off your high-tech gadgets. Nothing impresses quite like an iPhone, in a hip-holster made of soft corynthian leather...

IPhone Software Sales Take Off: Apple's Jobs
BY NICK WINGFIELD

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Apple Inc.'s bet on cellphone software appears to be paying off.

In the month since Apple opened an online software clearinghouse called the App Store, users have downloaded more than 60 million programs for the iPhone, Chief Executive Steve Jobs said in an interview at Apple's headquarters. While most of those applications were free, Apple sold an average of $1 million a day in applications for a total of about $30 million in sales over the month, Mr. Jobs said.

If sales stay at the current pace, Apple stands to reap at least $360 million a year.

Is there a utility to take screen shots of the screen. I had it on 1.1.1.

Also, is there an app that allows you to send and receive files via Bluetooth?
