Anyone have a suggestion for a good way to get to Angkor Wat? Either from Bangkok or Pattaya. How long does it take to get there, accomodations, time needed to look around, entertainment etc. Any input appreciated...

when i was there it took about 90mins to get there by car. it was on a sunday. do make sure you reach there in the morning...so if you can start off earlier. the place is huge thus getting there early would make a difference in covering more ground.

A nice way to do it would be to fly BKK to Phnom Penh, stay maybe a night there and then take a boat to Siem Reap(there are many Hotels/guest houses) . You can buy a 2 day pass to Angkor for 40$ . Fly back to BKK from Siem Reap.

there are two daily flights from bangkok to siem reap which is close to angkor wat. price is about thb 10,000 for return flights. drivers with cars are plenty outside of the airport which will take you around the huge compounds in the area!

Definately fly Bangkok Airways BKK - Siem Reap, a few flights each day. Stay in or near Siem Reap and you'll need at least 3 days to have a good look at all the best sites. Go out as early as you can in the morning to avoid coach parties and the heat, take a break from 10am - 3pm and then go out again in the afternoon. Its a huge site and well worth visiting if you're interested in temples. I stayed at Borann guesthouse in Siem Reap which I can thoroughly recommend. I think it was about 30 USD a night but very comfortable and had a pool in the garden which was perfect for the midday break. The rooms were excellent with beautiful traditional furniture. Otherwise there are many cheaper gueshouses and more expensive hotels. If you are in a group rent a car with driver (I think 20USD per day) or on your own a motorbike with driver (8 USD per day). If you go out on your own you might get lost on the way to some places. Hope that helps.

he probably meant from the airport in siem reap to angkor wat! last time i was in angkor i actually did a speed tour of all the treasures in only one day! as long as you have a good driver, a detailed plan how to go to which temples and are an early bird you can actually do about 10 sites in one day and fly back straight back to bangkok on the smae say. beware only something for a stress proofed and time efficent person!
