HT. Actually, I entered Cambodia via bus and left by airplane form Phnom Phen and as far as I remember I paid little bit more than $100 but I forgot which airline I used.
Maybe, the airlines have risen their price or I got a cheap one at that time.
I tried many travel agencies in Phnom Phen and took the one which offered the cheapest price.

As far as I remember, the average price was about $120 ~ $130 for one way.

Ballsburstin.

Yes, I am talking about Aran and I may be wrong with the price ($5). I walked out of the bus terminal and took a motorbike in the road. In my second thought, I think I paid 100B or so. I can't remember the exact amount of money because I just gave it to the driver as much as he quoted.

Depending on how long you have and what type of travel you prefer all is possible.

For me I would fly to Phnom Phen check into the Flamingo hotel (girl friendly, clean, new, free internet in lobby, ok breakie, airport pick up, helpful staff) all for 20.00 U.S, http://www.flamingos.com.kh/
In flamingo they will get you tickets for bus, air, or boat and get you to the station.

If you would rather have a cheap room with lot's of P4P try Walkabout. For a nice hostess bar Rose Barhas rooms. I love these ladies.

I would schedule a boat ride on the Mekong express up to Siem Reap, about 3 maybe 3.5 hrs ride but relatively comfortable and alot of scenery. Floating cities,, mosques, and the Tonle Sap fishermen etc.

I would book at the Golden Orange Hotel in Siem Reap owned by Doug? the old owner of Mikey's in Phnom Penh. Can book online or through the Flamingo. The goldern orange will have a driver pick you up at the boat. It will be free in hopes that you pick him up for hire the next day to Angkor Wat.

The owner of Goldern orange is a great resource for the local P4P scene after a day at the temples and took me to Heaven on earth.

Stay in Siem Reap for 3 days if you can. Get the 3 day pass. I did two days one at the temple and it was not enough to see a 1/3 of the sites. Going back in a couple weeks for 3 more before 3 in PP and 1 in Sihanoukville.

I would fly back to Bkk via Bangkok Air from there or return to PP and fly out there Air Asia. The bus crossing is rough and only a few dollars cheaper. The first leg was ok in Cambodia then after an hour at the border I was stuffed in a mini van with 8 other full sized blokes for 5 more hours after crossing into Thailand.

Cost today for total package, let's say Air cheap and bus cheaper.

I could do the whole trip with travel, room, ladies, Angkor wat and Phnom Penh 5 days for 550- 650 U.S. on a serious budget with cheap everything 300.00 or less but thats crazy. It's Angkor Wat with a side trip to PP. Have a blast.

I'll be there around June 10th, contact me if your around, we can share expenses. If you have more questions after a little research pm me.

****Update******

Bangkok to Phnom Pehn $10.00 U.S. thats 20 round trip with a bus or boat to Siem reap and back less than 100.00 wow....I better book soon.

Actually I'm flying Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap for 22USD. then return from PP for 10 to BKK.

Some good info here,, but must add my 2 cents worth.

Confirm Flamingos in PP is good,, confirm best way to get to Angkor on a budget but not wanting 10 hours in a bus is,,, fly Asia air to PP then Taxi up to Siem reap,,, do NOT recommend boat up to SR after seeing the huge blisters covering a European lady after her boat trip ( in Aus she would have been rushhed to hospital it was THAT BAD).
Confirm Orange hotel is excellent.
Rather than tuk tuk,,, I would get air-con car with English speaking tour guide ( licensed), it worth the extra dollars. Also if you are not in a great hurry I recommend 1 day at temples, 1 day rest, 1 day at temples etc for 3 days temples 3 days rest. This gives you a chance to read up on what you have seen the previous day.
There is zero problems finding nice girls around the night-life areas of SR,,, do NOT pay more than US$15 for over-night.
I was there in January and had a GREAT TIME.

Cheers

I was checking airasia from BKK to Phnom Penh and it was only $60 with taxes not including airport fees which would bring it up to about $100. Bangkok airways was around $300. Big difference in price.

How long and how much is the taxi ride from PP to siem reap?

PP <-> SR there is a bus departs at 7:00 or 7ish.
If I remember correctly one day there is only one bus and it takes about 4 hours.
Taxi would be a good chocie because it would take the same time but much expensive.
ask your hotel then they will let you know and book a seat for you.

Bus to SR takes about 5-6 hours,, Taxi maybe 4-4.5,,, go to the market area and find someone to share the taxi,,, fare should be around US$45,,,,shared is US$22.5,, CHEAP considering what you just saved on the flight over.
Taxi = stop when you want, drink beer and smoke cigarretes etc etc etc.

I'm not sure about the origin of her blisters; I'd say stiff cramps of limbs and excrutiating atrophy would've been more likely, but we all react differently. I took the boat across the lake from PP up to SR about 5 yrs ago. Takes about 6hrs I think? Fast, nice views. Only a bit bumpy on hard benchlike seats. My major complaint was that it was very crowded and everybody was sort sitting around uncomfortably squeezed together--no room to stretch. This with the May heat was pretty miserable (another time of year would have been better of course). But hey, I survived.

Adventure, I guess. Some holidays are like that.

Yes I also remember the Boat from PP to Siem Raep. I booked a ticket and was told "we only have room on the upper deck" No problem I thought envisaging a nice breezy deck with Sunshade.
On arrival at the boat I found the upper deck consisted of the roof of the boat with just a handrail,no seats and no shade. If it had not been for the kindness of an australian girl who lent me a sheet to protect my head with, I would have suffered.

AHHH,, upper deck NO ROOF, hot sun and 6 hours,,,, doesn't take a genius to work out were that Euro lady got those HUGE sun burn blisters all over her legs and arms. And believe me she was in major pain.

Personally I would take the Taxi option,, cold beers and air-con,, then take a boat trip on the "great lake" after you get to SR.

But as always,,,,each to their own.

Way to go Bros! Some great tips turning up in this thread.... Thanks!

Alas, as per her present spoiled rotten free-lancing life, Miss Buriram will be whisked to Siem Reap in style- aboard Bangkok Airways where she will then be ensconsced at the swank Shintamani Hotel for three glorious nights and four days of mutual discovery.

So, since that's been sorted and my p4p menu is set, what do we know of tour guides to Bayon and Angkor? Or should I just explore the fine links offered up so far...
