The first thing for you is to hire your three day tuktuk driver. I paid $7 per day for a motor bike so you would be expected to pay $10~12 depending on where you go. (for ar temples additional charges)
Regarding tour guide, I think you should ask the ticket booth where you need to buy 3 day pass.
Don't hire tour guide for 3 days. you only need him/her for bayon and angkor wat which is one day route.
The rest of temples will be referred to your angkor wat tour book or you can find a pdf document on the internet written by a french guy who researhed angkor wat really in depth.
If you have time you can go to seoul garden in the alley next to star mart. I left my angkor wat book (actually print out of that book I explained above) last year in that guest house.

For the 3 days of your temple tours I recommend hiring an air conditioned car at around $20 per day, the driver will pick at your hotel drive you out to the ticket booth, drop you off at a temple gate and drive around to the otherside. Now as I'm in my 60s its great to take a break in a nice cool car while being driven to the next temple supping on a cool drink. get the driver to drop you back at your hotel for lunch, a cool shower and change of clothes and maybe a cooling swim in the pool. Then out to the Wats again taking in the sunset, back to hotel change and off downtown for the nightlife a few beer and maybe a take away!! The driver I had would drive around for some of the night and then arange a tuktuk bike to take me home.

If you want to do it without an official guide then that is easily done. The taxi drivers and tuk tuk drivers know their way about very well and while they can't step foot in the temple sites because they are not licensed guides they can still help you plan your days sight seeing. Either before you go or when you get there, be sure to get hold of a guidebook by Dawn Rooney called surprisingly 'Angkor' Copies in Siem Reap sell for about $5. A quick read of that (not too complicated) combined with a good driver and you can manage without an official guide.
