If it is correct what my former live-in GF and Powellys hostess said, is that the owner of Powellys owns three bars.
So it might be true, that he closed one and moved all the staff to one of the sister bars.

33 early last night Livingstones really has some excellent ladies worth checking out. Sports bar next door nice gals but empty Dali no customers except me and my favorite there when the Mama was insisting I BF her she says "no BF I just go his room after bar finish." She said this really loud to the Mama who looked a bit grumpy about it. Anyway she didnt because I would not let her or maybe she did but I was busy getting busy already.

The high bar fines don't really deter me at all. If only they'd put in more attractive girls, I'd go there. Simple as that. I am there for pussies, not dogs. Besides, if you don't want to pay the bar fine, just tell her to meet you at your hotel after work, that's assuming you can wait that long for her and that she hasn't been bar fined by someone else.

Yes, barfines can't be the downfall of Soi 33. These barfines have been always that high there. and the barfines in other areas are still the same for a long time.
I would say it even became more favorable as some bars started to adapt a sliding scale depending on the time of night.
My opinion is that the decrease in customers is a result of companies sending their expat employees back home.
Soi 33 for years lived mostly on expats (like myself) going for a drink after work time.

I guess you pay your money and take your choice I like 33 and the general vibe of everything being a little but smarter I buy into the illusion.
I also think that it's a poor business model that does not adapt to the market. I am amazed at the way some bars are run but then again we support or not with our $$$.
33 I am still a fan.

Funny, This reminds me of something that happened to me in chiang Mai.
I was soi Loi Kroh and a girl tried to pull me into her bar. She was pretty cute but I had to go somewhere and joked about her coming to my room to sleep at night. She wanted to see my hotel key and mentally noted the room number.
I had forgotten all about it until, at 2am, front desk wakes me up telling me there is a lady waiting for me.
Sure enough, it was her.
She turned out to be a nice f*** (and a free one too, if you don't count the next day of shopping we did together)
