GLOW proudly presents
DJ SLIPMATT
Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Slipmatt is one of the most popular and respected DJs in the world and continues to attract capacity crowds across the globe with sets that never fail to deliver on expectations.

Matthew Nelson aka the legendary Slipmatt is one of the biggest if not the biggest rave DJ around. Matt has played all over the world, mixing and spinning across every continent and all over the UK. The 'Godfather of Rave' is one of the UK's busiest and well-respected DJs around.

Slipmatt started his professional DJ career in 1989 when he was resident for Raindance. He also released his first single in 1989 called ‘Do That Dance’ which was the first SL2 production with partner and fellow DJ ‘Lime’. Matt then went on to experience untold success as SL2 with the number 11 national chart hit ‘DJs Take Control/Way In My Brain’ and 'On a Ragga Tip' which in April 1992, hit number 2 in the national charts and the number 1 spot in the Network Charts, staying in the top 7 for an incredible 8 weeks. At this time, Slipmatt and DJ Lime were propelled into the media spotlight with many TV appearance's including Top of the Pops and Dance Energy. Their chart success continued with a remix of 'Way in My Brain' coupled with 'Drumbeats' on the flipside. This settled in the top twenty.

In 1993 Matt set up a new project with the SMD series (Slip Matt’s Dubs), his first release SMD#1 sold over 10,000 units pushing a new style Happy Hardcore sound. In ‘94 Matt released the only track on Awesome Records under his Slipmatt title. This was one of the last Jungle/Hardcore cross over track released, and it soon became evident that Matt had to make a choice between styles - he successfully took the hardcore route.

Slipmatt went on to compile a CD for Kickin Records, a label established since 1989 that featured other top artists such as Josh Wink, Masters at Work and Roger Sanchez. Since then Matt has compiled and mixed numerous compilation albums which collectively have sold millions of copies, including classics like ‘United Dance Anthems 1 & 2’ and ‘Moondance True Rave Anthems’. In 1997 Matt had extended his talents to presenting his own radio show on Kiss 100 pushing his sounds across the airways to a vast audience supporting the scene.

To date Matt's work has not gone unnoticed by his adoring fanbase. Both Dream Magazine and M8 voted him 'Best DJ', with a nomination for 'extreme international competition' by Muzik Magazine. At times Matt has been voted in the world top 20 DJ Magazine poll and he also received the title of 'Best Remixer' from the readers of M8, and deservedly was awarded for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Industry' from Kiss 100.

For the past ten years Matt has continued to broaden the style of music he plays, what with the rise of Trance and also the new Breaks sound, and some of his favourite sets have been when he plays a mixture of different styles in his renowned unique way which fuses different beats in a style that sets him apart from the rest. Matt is a DJ of remarkable degree maintaining the old crowd as well as accessing the new market. He is in demand all over the world with regular trips to the USA, Australia, Thailand, Europe, and especially Ibiza where he has played sets at the world’s No.1 Superclub ‘Space’ as well as headlining residencies at Es Paradise, Eden, Summum, and San Antonio’s West End. Three years ago Slipmatt was riding high at No.1 in the DJ club charts with 'Space' which found its way into the boxes of every top DJ from Paul Van Dyke and Judge Jules, to Fergie and Mauro Picotto as well as achieving day time Radio 1 play list.

Last year Slipmatt was awarded Best Old Skool DJ at the Official Old Skool Awards in London back in April which was voted worldwide by the public. He has been extremely busy with his UK diary playing nationwide and also some of the biggest dance festivals including Escape In The Park and Coloursfest, and for 2007 has just secured summer residencies in Majorca, Greece, and another 19 week residency at one of Ibiza’s trendiest nightclubs “Summum” where he got voted 2nd best night on the Island of Ibiza last year, the clubbing capitol of the world.

Since last year Matt has been working on a new style. Alongside ‘Billy “Daniel” Bunter, they have been pushing their new sound which they call ‘Ravebreaks’, a fusion of breakbeats mixed with anything from traditional rave sounds to electro to full on vocal songs. He has been involved in a series of highly successful compilation albums with ‘Ministry of Sound’ under the ‘Helter Skelter’ banner which has covered the new Ravebreaks sound right through to upfront Hardcore and beyond. This year Slipmatt has been extremely busy in the studio remixing hits like ‘Destination Calibria’ in his Ravebreaks style as well as turning his hand to bouncy house with remixes under his belt of ‘Stonebridge – Put Em High’ and ‘Divine Inspiration – The Way’. After all these years Slipmatt is still right on the cutting edge of the dance scene bringing his fans the newest upfront music around as well as all the classics that he has always been famous for.
