Converting US Dollars to Thai Baht

At the time of writing the exchange rate is about 30-31 Baht to 1 US Dollar. For quick mental calculations, it will be much easier to round up the figure to 33 B to 1 USD. So, using this approximation, 1,000 B is equivalent to 33 USD.

When you are changing US Dollars to Thai Baht, you will always get a better rate when changing larger denominations, (i.e. 100's or 50's). The smaller denominations will get you a lower rate.

Exchange rates are normally better at the banks' exchange counters in the city than at the airport. Unless you really have to, avoid exchanging any currency at hotels or bars as you will get the worst possible rate.

Tips:

• Bring large denominations for better exchange rates
• Change a small amount at the airport for your taxi fare into the city, and then change the rest in the city
• In most cases you may use the bank's currency exchange counters as they are conveniently located all over town.
• Do not change your money at the hotels, their rates are horrible! Just take a walk around town, and find a bank currency exchange counter.
• For better rates, you want to try the money changers. There are a few located along the lower Sukhumvit Road. There are many of them in the Sukhumvit Soi 3/1 area (Middle Eastern area). Their rates are normally much better than the banks.
