Tipping

How much to tip a MP girl (http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=2&topic=208)

-- Posted by Stueyb on 2:13 am on Nov. 22, 2002

Without being stingy or over generous, what is the normal or average tip to give a MP girl ?

-- Posted by ABC on 2:20 am on Nov. 22, 2002

Stueyb:
Tipping is a personal issue. You will get different amounts depending on who you ask in the forum. I think the range the forum has come up with that most members follow is this:

Between 0 - 1,000 baht. With 500 baht being closer to the average.

But .. again, if you are paying 1,000 for the service, then tipping 500 baht might seem outrageous. So ... then tip 100 baht if that makes you feel comfortable.

Personally, I tip at least 500 baht and sometimes up to 2,000 baht depending on the service and person. If I've seen that females before and she's a regular, then I will give more.

I also go to Emanuelle, Mirage, Caesar and Poseidon and usually take the sideline models, which means the prices are higher .... which I wish they were lower!! ha ha ha ha!!  So giving a 1,000 baht tip on a 3,200 baht service might be more exceptable then say a 2,000 service and then tipping 50%

But you do not have to follow my lead. Again, tip whatever you feel comfortable with tipping and that's good enough.

Hope that helps, because there is no golden formula or amount.

Just remember that it is your choice and you should not feel pressured to tip or not tip.

Thanks ABC, I tipped 500 on top of 2500 at Darling, so I guess I hit it about right.  2500 is a bit steep though, why is it so expensive there, purely because of convenience to Sukhumvit ? I think I'll try some other places next time.

-- Posted by darknight on 3:24 am on Nov. 22, 2002

I used to tip 500 B as well, however, it all depends on the service that you got. I have heard that 200-300 B would suffice. There was once, I totally forgot to tip and the girl didn't even mention anything. Another time, I had two rounds with a model and the girl was demanding a 1,000 B tip for that extra round. Well, I gave her all that I had, 700 B.

Another time, I had a girl with the worst possible attitude, I just got dressed and walked out. Another time, when I had two girls doing a lesbian act for me, and I tipped them both 1,500 B each (on my credit card). In general, it all depends.

Agree with DK and ABC.

The tip is an UP TO YOU POLICY and the amount being tipped to the TGs by the bros is very very variable. I tip upon the attitude given. Despite of the places I get the service I tip them with no more than B/.500....although I tipped 1K to one TG at Nataree cos of her OUTSTANDING service e.g. BBBJ w/c.i.m., excellent fucking session and a titty fuck....I could try the back door of the TG but I was wasted and the 1.5 hrs time was a constraint....Soon after she moved to J1 MP and is my regular there.....Cheers!

PS
I think that if you require an special service from the TG e.g. extra fuck, anal penetration, titty fuck, etc. you may wish to tip her B/.500-1K and that will be suffi....

-- Posted by griffin on 11:38 pm on Nov. 22, 2002

you are right i also feel that darlings with thb 2,500 is a bit steep esp. considering the sometimes not outstanding quality of the girls in there. a bit more of sukhumvit like petchaburi prices tend to fall below thb 2,000 for a 2 hour session (ML and cupidty).
i usually also tip between thb 500 and thb 1,000 depending on the service given!

-- Posted by nikko on 12:02 am on Nov. 23, 2002

Interesting.  There used to be an area on this site that suggested tipping 0-500 baht and I brought my tipping down based on this.  Also, an expat friend has said well-off thai's have told him 300 baht or so is a fair tip. Also I tend to tip in proportion to the cost of the experience, so the girls at upscale places get more-maybe not really fair since they tend to get more anyway .  So I have tipped as low as 300 baht at a "medium" place (i.e. j-1), but usually also tip in the 500-1,000 baht range.

-- Posted by nokna on 12:37 am on Nov. 23, 2002

question.
i have no real experience of MP's,only visited 2.
1 when i was a really newbie and 1 in Patong.
cannot remember how much i paid upfront, but probably around 1700-2000.

Bangkok i tipped 500 and Phuket 2000.
but how much does the girl get from the original payment of 1700-2000, if any?
i know it might differ place to place.

-- Posted by nikko on 3:22 am on Nov. 23, 2002

Nokna,

The page on this site that used to list suggested tips also stated that depending on the mp the girl usually gets 40-60% of the original payment.  If the girls I know are to be believed this is accurate with most I know at the higher end of that percentage range.  Also, if the place charges a falang surcharge they are going to get a chunk of that as well.

-- Posted by nokna on 3:52 am on Nov. 23, 2002

typo.
in Phuket i tipped 1000, not 2000.
thanks Nikko.

i was just curious, never really been in the situation of having to tip.
just that with a Go-Go or BG,i just pay one price.

-- Posted by griffin on 4:04 am on Nov. 23, 2002

at darling they used to get thb 800 for each session and at cupidty about thb 900 irrespective if there was a surcharge or none!

-- Posted by nikko on 5:22 am on Nov. 23, 2002

Griffin,

Just curious, at darling is that 800 off of the current 2500 price?

-- Posted by sandiegon on 5:35 am on Nov. 23, 2002

Nikko,
Yes thats 800 bath beside your regular 2500 bath charges. Last time I paid 500 bath to her and she was more than happy. Also paid for the drink 160 bath plus tip to lady 40 bath
total damage 3300 bath

-- Posted by Packripper on 5:11 pm on Nov. 23, 2002

The split tends to be about 50/50 or 60/40 in favor of the girl.  The surcharge tends to be irrespective because that usually goes into the cheer guest pool and is divided amongst them.    The common bowl price of 1900, I've heard of splits of odd numbers like 1000,1040, 1100, and 1150 for the girl, the rest for the 'house.'   We're tipping 20-100% in many bars back in the US just buying drinks.   I don't think a 50% or so tip here for a little more than serving your coffee will kill ya.   But of course.... 'UP TO YOU' is the policy I always tell my visiting friends.

-- Posted by The Machine on 1:59 pm on Nov. 25, 2002

Am  i missing something???
I have only tipped one time in an MP and that is when i wanted someting special.I have never been asked for a tip and think that the prices are high enough anyway.Of course it is up to the individual but by tipping you are alnost paying western prices which is sort of defeating the object of going to Thailand.

-- Posted by thunderbird on 5:39 pm on Nov. 25, 2002

Personally, I just cannot take it when TGs just give so-so service and afterwards start to demand 1,000 baht tips. I think each  person will have his own tipping rule.

Myself? If its average service, then 300 should suffice. If it's good, 500. If it's out of this world, then 1,000 - 2,000 (and depending on whether I've recovered all my senses!)

-- Posted by Packripper on 10:47 pm on Nov. 25, 2002

I've never encounted any girls demanding tips. But as a decent tipper myself (I think), I rarely rarely come across poor service or odd behavior either. But I tip starting with the valets, waitstaff, cheer-guests, mamasans, PRs, MP girls, etc. So the repuation is pretty solid. I mean really. This is the real world. Nice things cost money. Good service costs money. The valet isn't going to make sure your car doesn't get dinged because he heard you were a good f*ck.

Same as any bartender or waitstaff stateside. Most of my regular places (even little places like TGI Fridays or even Denny's...), know that I tip well (or at least fairly). No service complaints from me.

In fact, I can't even recall off the top of my head at the moment a recent case of poor service.   The closest would be a New Cleopatra a few weeks ago.   I didn't call ahead and my regular cheer guests (both of them) weren't there.    No one jumped up to come to my service when I walked in the door.  Actually had to stand around in front of the fish tank for a few minutes.   Gosh was that awkward. ;)

-- Posted by griffin on 10:59 pm on Nov. 25, 2002

pack i really pitty you!
at least now you know how 90% of the bro's not in living in krung thep feel while they are in town.
back to the above question the darling girls get thb 800  out of the thb 2,500 charge, so they are in a way expecting tip. i had once an encounter there when a girl asked me for thb 1,000 tip for a lousy service! i declined politely -> anyway not a place i tend to go often!

-- Posted by Packripper on 11:11 pm on Nov. 25, 2002

;)

hehe.  Actually... I was maybe indulging a bit, Griff.   I think really I was only standing around for about 1 minute before someone recognized me and rushed over.   But it was a long minute.

-- Posted by griffin on 11:17 pm on Nov. 25, 2002

oh yeah! i am with you! also hate it sometimes when i come to place and nobody is greeting me! those minutes can be hours!

-- Posted by nikko on 11:47 pm on Nov. 25, 2002

Thanks griffin.  I assumed they were getting a better cut from Darlings.  I would probably be inclined to give a better tip for good service knowing they are getting less than 40%, but also not someplace I hit all that often.  And I think Packrip is right, being a regular somewhere and having greased the wheels of commerce virtually ensures good service.

-- Posted by kmanrox on 12:12 am on Nov. 26, 2002

i had my first MP experience at Darlings last week, and the girls werent too hot...  i paid 2500 up front and tipped her 1k.....  call me a boring old man, but for the price (albeit a zillion times cheaper than in the states) i could have got a couple of cm2 girls LT..... maybe i just have  an askewed outlook on it...

-- Posted by griffin on 12:14 am on Nov. 26, 2002

kman, that's what i was trying to tell before!
knowing the kind of girls you go for i would strongly suggest that next time you should better check out these places:
cupidty in plaza entertainment (better selection quality and quantity wise also a lot cheaper at thb 1,800) or the ratchada places in average same price but much, much better quality on stock than in darlings!

We're tipping 20-100% in many bars back in the US just buying drinks. I don't think a 50% or so tip here for a little more than serving your coffee will kill ya.

You're neglecting the fact that the service itself costs a lot more and the cost of living is a lot less. This kind of analogy is useless, IMO.

Good service costs money.

This is only relevant if you are a repeat customer. For most visitors to Thailand, overtipping will not get them better service. But there is a subtle art (which I have not mastered) of indicating that you are willing to tip generously if the service is great.

-- Posted by Packripper on 11:59 am on Nov. 26, 2002

^

Regarding the cost of service.   IMO, the cost of service anywhere is almost nothing.  Because in the end it's the cost of human sweat and acting skills on how well you're serviced (sexually and non-sexually) anywhere in the world.   I was just looking at it from a numbers perspective (as most businessmen would).

Agree regarding the repeat customer thing.   If one is not a repeat customer in any establishment, tipping is pretty much useless from a practical standpoint (although I'd have to admit that I still try to tip well even if I think I'll never be in Tucson, Arizona again in this life).   You don't have an opportunity to "get credit" for it.   But for me, I know these people have a good memory, it's a small world, AND in the end, the cost of gratuity is minimal.

-- Posted by Groundpounder on 9:17 pm on Nov. 26, 2002

What's an acceptable tip if you go for a traditional massage (500 baht at CP2 as I recall), and then go on to have sex with your MP (without any price negotiation).

Surely, under those circumstances, a 1,000 baht tip is more appropriate than a 500 baht one?

-- Posted by griffin on 9:45 pm on Nov. 26, 2002

well full sex would be more a thb 1,000 tip, you are right! just compare to places like euro inn or barans the girls there usually demand thb 1,500 for extra full course, so here we go!

With all due respect, if you use this math to run a business it wouldn't last very long ;)

1) You say that a MP girl should be tipped more because the service she offers is "more than serving coffee" and argue this justifies a 50% tip vs. 20% tip. If you're buying a cup of coffee in Thailand for 2000B then you might have point with this line of reasoning, but even Starbucks only charges 85B or so. At Starbucks I give them the extra 15B, at MPs I certainly tip a lot more than 15B (and by the way, the girls at Starbucks get very little of that initial 85B).

2) How do you correlate wages, let alone tips, in America vs. wages in Thailand? There is no rational basis to say "I tip X dollars for this service in America, so I should tip X dollars in Thailand." What you can decide is that "I can give X dollars to a bartender in America and it means almost nothing to her, but if I give X dollars to a Thai MP girl it will make her day." That is not about what is right, but what makes you feel good.

Agree regarding the repeat customer thing. If one is not a repeat customer in any establishment, tipping is pretty much useless from a practical standpoint (although I'd have to admit that I still try to tip well even if I think I'll never be in Tucson, Arizona again in this life). You are not differentiating between giving a fair tip for the service that is performed and what I call "overtipping." Not giving a fair tip is ethically wrong. When you "overtip" it is either because you expect something in return (better future service) or enjoy donating money to individuals who haven't earned it.

Your heart may be in the right place, but don't pretend it's anything other than charity (which sometimes is truly benevolent, but many times is just about making the giver feel good or look important).

-- Posted by Packripper on 12:03 pm on Nov. 27, 2002

;)
Actually, the math I use to run our businesses is to pay people as little as humanly possible and to take as big a cut out of the pie with each slice (which incidentally is the formula for most MPs, "no pay" + "percentage split of each slice" ). It's worked pretty well for XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, although I must admit I'm probably more generous to our XXXXXXXX Mexican XXXXXXXXXXXXXX stateside than to our XXXXXXXXXXXX.

****edited by Packripper's public information control apparatus

My tipping habits are indeed part charity, part payment for future service (more of the latter).** Since it's all relative (and I do feel I get what I'm paying for), I don't believe it is "overtipping or over paying" or not. I feel that the results are fairly tangible. I'm certainly not one to throwaway money on the intangible (or else I'd be no different from the class of people who can't seem to hold on to their money at all). And actually, when I actually do tip, I don't really calculate the percentages (was just doing so for the benefit of those who do), it's just what 'feels' about right (and if once in a long long while..... "feels right" = zero, then zero it is). And although it might make the girl feel happy, it's not really about her feeling happy. Life is surely about what makes Packripper happy (and that's continued good service by those who are here to serve him). ;)

For myself, at Starbucks (counter style) I don't tip a thing because I don't feel any gratuity is required (I would if say they had to bring it to my table). I don't feel they would be able to up the level of service to any particular customer even if they wanted to. P4P however is another ball game for me. I continue to be surprised by girls who go the 'extra mile,' because (IMO) I'm generally a nice guy in the room and because of reputation of gratuity.

Actually, I'd be just as happy being one of the fewer people tipping (or few people 'overtipping') in town. That's why I always advise strangers"up to you," because for most people, that means zero tip or very little of a tip. I mean, if the service was only 1900, and you tip 500,1000, 1500... wouldn't that 'hard earned money' be better spent to buy yourself another round (another girl) somewhere else?

*for my friends, I'll still say 'up to you...' but if they ask for an amount, I'll just say 500, 1000, 5000.... what do you think?

;):)

-- Posted by Packripper on 1:50 pm on Nov. 27, 2002

**regarding "future service"... I might be with one girl at particular MPs that I frequent (which probably underscores the meaning of the word 'frequent'). I will usually ask her what other girls here are her friends (for looks similar to hers, age preference, skills preference, for a good sandwich with her, or a good sandwich with her friend and someone else, or ask what new girls here are her friends... relative 'freshness' to be considered) and will discuss if I had been with her particular friends, their good points, etc... all just chit chat. "koey kun mai?" ("been up with her before?" .... how was it, etc, etc.) Then later on.... when I invariably do go with the other girl(s) that were recommended, I usually already have an introduction (because yes, they do talk to each other***) and am off to a good start (since the previous girl has already been informed about what I like, what my attitude is like, and oh yeah, forgot to mention he's a decent tipper...)

***more on "they talk to each other".... if you're not a regular customer somewhere, the girl definitely has no idea about you, and you have none about her. If you are a regular (whether you are a "jai dee" guy or prick or just regular/average Joe Schmoe), or at least are a regular by reference, there is typically some minor information exchange before the transaction takes place. The girls usually talk in the fish bowl, dressing rooms and makeup rooms, and to a lesser extent, outside of 'the office.' It's "oh yeah, I know him, age XXX, profession XXX, good points (good tipper/fairly experience sexually/polite/not too rough), bad points (cheapskate / likes to pound away for 1 and a 1/2 hours with no lubricant / thinks girls just love 5 different guys who smell like beer to ALL go down on her in the same day)" and so forth. In a related matter (tipping/good relations) with the mamasans, papasans, sales, PRs, and cheerguests, the girls will usually ask the aforementioned about what this particular customer is like (same drill), when you call ahead and are asking for a new girl(s) with your preferences (with which your particular 'customer service representative' should already be familiar... particularly if you give them reason to remember you).
