New numbering system for Thai mobile phones (new 10-digit system for mobile phone numbers)On September 1st of 2006, all mobile phone numbers will use a new format, where all mobile phone numbers will be prefixed with a digit “8” just after the first “0”. So, if mobile phone number was previouly 01-123-4567, it will now be 081-123-4567. To dial the number from overseas, you simply add the “8” after the country code (66), which will be +6681-123-4567. All mobile phone users will be given a grace period between September 1st till November 30th to update their phone books in their mobile phones. You can do this yourself, by simply adding the digit “8” after the +66 or after the first “0” for every mobile phone number in your phone book. Or if you prefer, you could bring your mobile phone to the local stores such as TeleWiz, and they will have your phone books in your SIM card upgraded automatically. The only other part to change is the SMS (Short Message System) service number. The number begins with +661-, so just add the “8” after the “+66”, and you will be able to send SMSs correctly. Remember you can do this yourself, there is nothing to it.
